Playing Up:

In years past, WPLC has not had a defined standard for boys to play “up” a level.  However, the Board has decided that coaches on both the current team and the upper team must fully approve said player moving up; the coaches will have the sole and absolute discretion for this decision. Only one (1) player has been identified as having the ability to play “up” for the Fall season, and this Bantam-aged player is playing with Lightning.

Player Conduct Policy:

The Board has also adopted a three (3) strike rule for players’ conduct infractions this upcoming season, which will also be at the sole discretion of the coaches.  The first strike is a warning; the second strike is a suspension for games; and the third strike is expulsion from WPLC for the season and potentially beyond.  We encourage you as parents to discuss with your sons that lacrosse is a physical sport, yet such physicality must be met with sportsmanship and good behavior.

Kick-Off Party and Equipment Exchange:

The annual Spring Kick-off Party is scheduled for January 12th at 4pm at Anchor Church 1950 Mohican Trail, Maitland, Florida 32751. WPLC will provide pizza and drinks.  You are welcome to bring old equipment to donate, including helmets, cleats, gloves, shoulder pads, sticks, and arm pads.  You are also welcome to grab any equipment offered at the Party.  It is very important to attend this event even if your son has played with WPLC for years.  We are always looking to make our community stronger and the people involved more close-knit.

Apparel:

Be on the lookout in the coming days for a link to purchase WPLC apparel; we have partnered with a new company this year to bring more cost-effective and quicker-turnaround apparel for purchase.  Of note: this is different than the uniforms, which still must be purchased as indicated above.

Practice Jerseys:

Each player (including girls) will be loaned for the season a WPLC practice jersey, which are being offered for the first time.  These jerseys will be required to be worn at practice by all players on all teams, and feature the WP logo on both front sides of the reversible jersey.  We expect these jerseys to be handed out at the Kick-off Party and the first day of practice for those that cannot make the Kick-off Party.  These jerseys must be returned at the end of each season.  If you played in the Fall, your son likely still have the jersey and will not get a new one.

US Lacrosse Membership:

We require each player to have a US Lacrosse membership and there will be a place to include it in the registration process.  Registration, details and benefits received from the membership can be found.

The Board:

The WPLC Board is currently run by co-Presidents Chasse Greene and Ryan Scordato, and other members are: David Bumby; Courtney Maloney; Scott Ramey; Brianna Sheehan; Chris Wanzenberg; Garrett Manno; and David Johnson.  Winter Park Boys’ Head Lacrosse Coach Ryan Healey and Winter Park Boys’ Assistant Lacrosse Coach Colin Turner also serve on the Board and are involved in all major decisions affecting the WPLC.  Patrick Moore serves as special advisor to the Board as well.

We would like to thank past Board members for their great contributions to WPLC.

We look forward to a great season and Go Wildcats!
